(l3+)Scrypt Asics unable to mine due to Viabtc being down?
Troubleshooting

All 12 of my Scrypt Asics went suddenly went offline a little while ago. They are still operating it seems but they are unable to mine as the miner keeps giving this error " local0.warn cgminer: Failed to resolve (?wrong URL) ltc.viabtc.com:3333" in the miner log. It is the only thing that i can find that is stopping the machines from mining. I do not know what this viabtc is but when i look for it the website seems to currently be down. So is something going on here? is anyone else having this issue?

To clarify the pool that i have my machines directed at is the nicehash pool stratum+tcp://scrypt.usa-west.nicehash.com:3333 so i do not understand why it is even trying to connect to this other url that it is failing to do so.

So I was using NH firmware and i guess it's gone bad? Anyway I switched the firmware to BlissZ and now the miner I was testing the issue with is mining just fine. I guess it might be a NH firmware issue.

Thats why you should have backup pools setup. Don’tnlose mining time — get those suckers pointed at NiceHash or the LiteCoinPool.

I'm seeing this error message too when my miner stopped working about an hour ago. I'm using the Vnish firmware and the litecoinpool pool.

Following solution mentioned by https://www.reddit.com/r/litecoinmining/comments/r24g0x/comment/hm3tqm6/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3 worked.

I added this entry to /etc/hosts:

47.252.50.124 ltc.viabtc.com

then restarted cgminer, and my miner is hashing.

You need ssh access to the machine and login with root. Then edit the /etc/hosts file.

Open an ssh terminal:

Connect to IP of machine, with user root (same password as web login)

Type: vi /etc/hosts This opens the /etc/hosts file with the vi editor

Type: O This adds a line above the current line

Type: 47.252.50.124 ltc.viabtc.com

Type: [ESC]:wq [ESC] is the escape key. ":wq" saves and quits file

On web of machine, restart cgminer

VIABTC App & Site Not Working.

Ok folks, I was posting updated I came across for this problem in another chat but thought it best to start a new one specifically for this problem. Basically China have spat the dummy out again snd pulled the plug on several large mining pools. I personally use ViaBTC so this has affected me not being able to access the app or the usual ViaBTC.com website.

I’ve been following the admins comments from the ViaBTC TG site and below is the latest update from them. I have tried the sites and eventually managed to log on and see my workers for both BTC and LTC. I’ve successfully pulled funds yesterday from these accounts and for me, the mining pools are still working and earning without any changes. The sites they suggest (ViaBTC.net & ViaBTC.top) both work although it’s taken several attempts to access them für to the server traffic flow. They are supposedly moving the servers to Hong Kong which apparently will fix the issue! We will wait and see! Here’s what the TH admins have posted for the latest update. Hope this helps. ??

Besides, if you have problem using App, please update your ViaBTC App to the latest version.

Simply put, please use (viabtc.net) for visiting website and use(viabtc.top) for mining configuration.

I had the same problem. Miner also disappeared from nicehash rig manager, which is unusual. Generally, they take a full week to fall off when mining has been offline. I went to bitmain and swapped out the firmware, then set to mine for litecoin.org. The nicehash firmware wouldn't mine to Litecoin.org for some reason.

My apologies if this has been asked and answered. I'm new to the mining game but not to networks so I 'm curious, why are my miners needing to lookup viabtc at all when I'm using NiceHash?

FWIW, the stock Antminer firmware avoids this issue altogether. However, before I loaded the stock firmware, I followed the SSH instructions by u/nonfatalexec and my machines went back online right away.
